WATER RATES
MONTHLY MINIMUM
There is a monthly service charge based on service type and meter size on all accounts. These are collected to ensure the safety of the delivery system and infrastructure. Customers pay these charges regardless of the amount of water used.
No gallons are included in the monthly minimum charges.
Bulk Water/Standpipe Customers
Customers who have bulk water/standpipe accounts used to fill water trucks, etc. have no monthly fee.
GROUNDWATER RESOURCE FEE
To help recover the costs associated with water resources, all water customers are billed the groundwater resources acquisition fee. Similar to the other rates, this rate is calculated based on the monthly usage per 1,000 gallons.
taxes
There are two taxes levied each month. The sales tax is only charged on the water monthly minimum, water consumption, groundwater resource fee, and late charges at 10.1%. The superfund tax is a rate per 1,000 gallons. It is used to ensure water quality per state statute. The tax would be $0.65 for 100,000 gallons, or $0.0065 per 1,000 gallons.
OTHER CUSTOMER RATES
Non-residential customers do not have the tiered billing structure. These customers are billed per 1,000 gallons at the uniform rates listed in the chart to the right.
TIERED BILLING STRUCTURE
Marana Water uses a tiered, or increasing block, billing structure for residential customers. Based on the monthly meter reading, residential customers are billed for water usage per 1,000 gallons. As the usage increases, the rate increases. These types of structures are used to promote water conservation. In addition to encouraging conservation, a tiered billing structure puts more control with the customer on their monthly water bill. Each customer can adjust how much their bill changes each month by adjusting their water use.
Fire Service Line Fee
In continuing with our cost of service model, this rate study includes the addition of a monthly service fee for customer that have a direct connection to the distribution system solely for fire suppression. These connections require additional capacity that exceeds the typical water customer use. The fees listed to the right are intended to cover those additional costs. They are billed monthly and will be based on the size of the fire service connection to the building.
DEPOSITS
The Marana Water department requires a refundable security deposit for all accounts. The deposit amounts are listed to the right. The security deposit must be paid by 4:00PM on the business day prior to service commencement date.
Residential property owners - if you are the owner and primary occupant of the property, there is an option to waive the deposit by providing letters of good standing from three (3) previous utilities (water, sewer, trash, gas or electric). These can be sent via fax at (520) 382-2590, attached to the application or via email to MaranaWater@MaranaAz.gov. If unable to collect these letters, the deposit can be refunded after twelve months of good standing, meaning no disconnects, returned checks, or late fees.
Tenants and landlords - if you are renting out your home or are renting a home in the Marana Water service area, your deposit is refunded when you move out or close the account. These deposits must be collected before your scheduled move in date.
Commercial - Your deposit is refunded when you move out or close the account. These deposits must be collected before your scheduled move in date.
SEWER RATES
A residential sewer bill is calculated using two components:
Monthly minimum
Consumption charge
Marana Water has two sewer providers, Marana and Pima County Regional Water Reclamation Department (RWRD), both are collected on the water bill. The example below shows a Marana Water sewer bill with the monthly minimum at $17.66, and the consumption charge of $5.69 per 1,000 gallons. For Pima County RWRD customers, the same example below would come to $32.40. Their monthly minimum is $13 and the residential consumption charge is $4.85 per 1,000 gallons. For more information on Pima County’s rates, click here.
To calculate the sewer consumption portion of the bill an average of the three winter months, December, January, and February, of the previous year. Every July this average is recalculated for the upcoming year. When calculating the bill, the monthly water use OR the winter average is used to calculate sewer consumption, whichever value is lower will be used.
All non-residential customers will be charged the monthly minimum and the consumption will be based on their monthly consumption at the $5.69 per 1,000 gallons.
Customers have the ability to contest the accuracy of their bill. Click here to learn about that process. Town Code Title 14-5-6.
