MPD Sergeant retiring after decades of public service

MARANA- Sergeant James Paul is hanging up his badge after 37 years as a soldier, corrections officer and police officer.

Sergeant Paul has served the Marana community for more than two decades and was instrumental in bringing the Taser to the department in 2004. He also started the first Honor Guard Team in 2012.

Sergeant Paul formalized the Marana Police Department’s Sergeants Field Training Program and established procedures for the department’s Detention Facility. He is recognized as a Master Instructor through AZPOST for their General Instructor Program and has facilitated more than 30 classes statewide. He has taught more than 900 certified police officers from agencies across Arizona.

From the Chief of Police to the most recently promoted sergeant, Sergeant Paul has trained many in the department over the course of his career.

He has also received many awards over the years including the Gila River Police Commendation medal, MPD Career Service Award, Chief’s Citation and a three-time recipient of MPD’s Unit Citations Honor Guard to name a few.

Sergeant Paul will retire on August 23, 2024.
