Self-filling sandbag locations in Marana

MARANA- The Town of Marana wants to make sure you are prepared for storms during the monsoon this summer and has a plan to keep you safe.

Ahead of anticipated rainfall, Public Works is releasing its storm preparedness plan.

The goal is to protect the traveling public and keep streets safe and clean during the monsoon. Public Works crews will be ready for response and recovery following extreme flood events.

Part of the plan includes providing sand-bag self-filling locations which will be activated based on the forecast. When severe weather is forecasted, the Town will notify residents and activate those three locations. Town staff monitors radar from the National Weather Service in Tucson and the Pima County Regional Flood Control District ALERT System to determine flooding potential and the need to offer sandbags.

Once activated, sandbags can be picked-up at the following locations:

  • Marana Heritage River Park: 12280 N. Heritage Park Dr.

  • Camino De Manana & Tangerine Rd NE Corner: 4228 W. Tangerine Rd.

  • Silverbell Rd & Linda Vista Blvd SE Corner: 8057 W. Linda Vista Blvd

There is a limit of ten sandbags per person.

As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Marana and flood roadways, Public Works crews mobilize barricades to dip crossings throughout the Town. Please do not drive around or cross barricaded streets. Barricaded streets are a sign that unsafe conditions exist. Most vehicles float and are swept downstream in as little as 6 inches to one foot of water. When in doubt, take an alternate route.
