Marana Council Declares September 2021 as "Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month"

The Mayor and Council of the Town of Marana declare and recognize September 2021 as, "Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month" in the Town of Marana and encourages all to wear a teal ribbon in support of those individuals who may be battling the disease.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among women and causes more deaths than any other type of female reproductive cancer. It is estimated that more than 21,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and more than 13,000 will die from the disease.

Arizona has the six highest incidence and mortality rates of ovarian cancer in the American Southwest, with over 70% of its cases being diagnosed as "late stage”, there is no test or screening exam that can detect ovarian cancer in its early stages.

We join the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition - Arizona to raise awareness of the disease and its impact on Arizonians. We encourage all residents to learn more about the subtle signs, symptoms, and current treatment options available to women to identify and overcome this disease.
