In a 2020 Crime Report by LawnStarter, Marana was found to be the 12th Safest City in the state of Arizona.
LawnStarter made this evaluation based on FBI crime statistics from state and city police departments, including data on eight different crimes: arson, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, and robbery.
Each crime was weighted based on the average jail time of the sentence, with longer average sentences given greater weight. The weighted average across all crime rates determines each city’s “Danger Index” score— the lower the number, the safer the community.
