MARANA- The Town of Marana is one of more than 2,000 communities around the country chosen to receive federal funding for clean energy projects.
The U.S. Department of Energy distributed $20.5 million to 32 states, territories, local governments and Tribes through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program.
“The President’s Investing in America agenda is supporting local governments and tribal nations plan for a clean energy future, deploying energy efficiency upgrades that save money and build more resilient communities,” said Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm.
The Town of Marana was awarded $113,010 to upgrade the 20-year-old HVAC system at the Marana Municipal Complex.
The goal is to design and upgrade the aging chiller system which currently lacks central heating and has outdated controls. The new system equipment will help the Town of Marana in its effort to reduce energy use by 50 percent by 2050 or sooner.
This funding is the third round of grants awarded through the EECBG Program since October 2023. According to the the Department of Energy, a total of $431 million is available to 2,708 eligible states, local governments, Tribes, territories and the District of Columbia to implement programs and projects to improve energy efficiency, cut down on fossil fuel emissions and reduce overall energy use.
