TOWN OF MARANA SANDBAG DISTRIBUTION ON THURSDAY, JULY 29, 2021

In anticipation of more monsoon activity, the Public Works Department has scheduled Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 7 A.M. to 2 P.M. for sandbag distribution.

The Town of Marana provides services that are vital to our community’s health, safety and welfare. To help keep Marana residents safe, the Public Works Department has prepared a storm preparedness plan, with designated Public Works crews who will be ready for response and recovery efforts following extreme flood events. During the monsoon season, Public Works crews are on-call day and night to assist with placing barricades at flooded washes and dip crossings. After the floodwater recedes, Street Maintenance crews begin evaluating conditions of the roadway and remove any accumulation of hazardous debris.

Public Works will assist residents concerned with flooding by offering pre-filled sandbags based on the forecastWhen severe weather is forecasted, the Town will notify residents and Public Works will activate the sandbag pick-up locations. Town staff monitors radar from the National Weather Service in Tucson and the Pima County Regional Flood Control District ALERT System to determine flooding potential and the need to offer sandbags. To accommodate as many residents as possible, there is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.

PICK-UP LOCATIONS WILL BE AT:

  • Marana Operations Center Yard: 5100 West Ina Road

  • Marana Heritage River Park: 12205 North Tangerine Farms Road

Additional distribution dates will be added to the schedule based upon public demand and weather projections.

Motorists, we ask you please do not drive through a flooded wash or dip crossing. You do not know how deep the water is, or what condition the road is in under the water. We encourage everyone to be flood safe and when in doubt turn around, don’t drown. Cars can float in as little as 6 inches to 1 foot of water.
