Cherry Lawson, Town Clerk of the Town of Marana, has earned the prestigious designation of Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. This designation is achieved by dedicated time and effort, and displays proficiency in the role of Town Clerk.
The MMC program is an advanced continuing education program that prepares participants to perform complex municipal duties. The program has an extensive and rigorous educational component and a professional and social contribution component.
Lawson has served as a City Clerk/Elections Administrator and Records Manager for 18 years. Her previous titles include City Clerk/Township Clerk for the City of Bloomington and Bloomington Township, as well as the City Clerk, Elections Administrator, Records Manager, and Cemetery Administrator for the City of Mesquite, Nevada; City Clerk and Records Manager for the City of Sedona, and City Clerk for the City of Ypsilanti, Michigan
Lawson has had a career in inpatient treatment and community mental health as a youth counselor/advocate for over 15 years, and as a Case Manager/Housing Resource Specialist. Being a public servant was the career path Cherry wanted to pursue, as she saw it as an extension of being able to continue to serve the public beyond the community mental health field.
