After a competitive nationwide recruitment process, Barbara Hempel began her service at the Town of Marana as Airport Manager for the Marana Regional Airport effective June 21.
Hempel has more than 10 years of airport experience. She previously served at Tucson Airport Authority as Director of Properties, where she was responsible for revenue business lines at both Tucson International Airport and Ryan Airfield. She also directed all leasing and management contracts, including airline and airfield tenants, food and beverage, retail, parking, and rental car. Prior to working at TAA, Hempel worked for over 20 years managing commercial real estate in Tucson.
Hempel has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned her Certified Member designation through the American Association of Airport Executives.
Hempel and her husband recently celebrated their 30-year anniversary, and they have three adult daughters who live in Tucson. Hempel enjoys spending time hiking, riding or driving her horses, kayaking, and flying with her husband to airports throughout the southwest.
