The Town of Marana wants to keep Town of Marana streets safe and clean to ensure safe passage for our residents and visitors during the monsoon summer season. To accomplish the program goal, the Public Works Department has prepared a storm preparedness plan, with designated Public Works crews who will be ready for response and recovery efforts following extreme flood events.
Public Works will assist residents concerned with flooding by offering prefilled sandbags based on the forecast. When severe weather is forecasted, the Town will notify residents, and Public Works will activate the sandbag pick-up locations. Town staff monitors radar from the National Weather Service in Tucson and the Pima County Regional Flood Control District ALERT System to determine flooding potential and the need to offer sandbags. To accommodate as many residents as possible with sandbags, there is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.
Once activated, sandbags can be picked up at the following locations:
Marana Operations Center Yard: 5100 W. Ina Road
Marana Heritage River Park: 12205 N Tangerine Farms Road
As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Marana and flood roadways, Public Works crews will mobilize barricades to dip crossings throughout the Town. Please do not drive around or cross barricaded streets. Barricaded streets are a sign that unsafe conditions exist. Most vehicles float and are swept downstream in as little as 6 inches to one foot of water. When in doubt, take an alternate route.
