The Town of Marana Parks and Recreation Department received three awards at the 70th annual Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA) State Conference, including the President’s Award, which was awarded to Recreation Superintendent Corey Larriva. The APRA President’s Award highlights and recognizes one member who has provided outstanding service and dedication to the organization and industry.
Larriva was the Marketing Chair for the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association Board this past year and was recognized for his many contributions, including the development of the new APRA logo and his work planning this year’s Virtual APRA State Conference.
Larriva was nominated by 2020 APRA President Kristie Riester. When presenting his award, Riester said of Larriva, “I have had the privilege to watch his career grow from seasonal staff to incredible professional, making huge impacts with everything he touches. He has been instrumental in moving the APRA brand forward, creating amazing marketing opportunities, boosting our presence on social media, and developing a logo and tagline we can all be proud of.”
Since 2010, Larriva has assisted in numerous roles on APRA Conference Planning Committees, serving three terms as the Marketing Committee Chair on the Board of Directors. During that time, he collaborated on the development and adoption of APRA’s 3-year Strategic Plan, lead the Marketing Committee through a comprehensive rebrand for the Association, and implemented social media strategies targeted to increase member connections and engagement.
In addition to the President’s Award, Marana Parks and Recreation also won the Outstanding Program Award for their Aquatics Program and Active Adults 50+ Program.
