Town of Marana Mayor and Council recognize and proclaim May 17–23, 2020 as “National Public Works Week” and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in supporting public works and to recognize the contributions that public works professionals make to provide the infrastructure required to sustain the comfort, health, safety and well-being of our community.

Public Works provides services in our community that are an integral part of the lives of citizens and enhances the daily quality of their lives. State and local governments are responsible for building, rebuilding, operating, and maintaining the transportation, water supply, water treatment, parks, public buildings, and other structures and facilities that are essential to serving the citizens.

The support of understanding and informed citizens is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways, parks and public buildings. The health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depends on these facilities and services, and the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by people’s attitudes and understanding of the importance of the work they perform.

This year’s theme is The Rhythm of Public Works, which challenges our team members and our citizens to think about our community as a symphony of essential services, working in concert to create a great place to live,” said Public Works Director Mo El-Ali. “Every community has a rhythm, a heartbeat that reflects its essence and tempo in life. Public Works keeps a community’s rhythm moving by providing an orchestra of infrastructure services in transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater, public buildings and spaces, parks and grounds, emergency management and first response, and right-of-way management. Public Works provides the harmony needed for collaboration with all the stakeholders in infrastructure solutions and quality of life services.”
