Marana Town Council approved a new speed limit map implementing speed limit adjustments throughout the Town of Marana. The speed limit adjustments are intended to increase safety based on a number of factors, including simplifying speed limit zones by eliminating short speed zones and minimizing the occurrence of different speed zones for different directions of travel. The speed limit adjustments will be implemented in three phases.

Phase 1 begins in March with the following schedule:

Week of March 16, 2020

  • Moore Road – from Dove Mountain to Wild Burro will be adjusted from 40 mph to 30 mph. This change will be implemented during Spring Break. Returning school traffic during the week of March 23 must note the speed limit change.

Week of March 23, 2020

  • Cochie Canyon Trail westbound on approach to Union Pacific Railroad will be adjusted from 35 mph to 40 mph.  This change makes the speed limit 40 mph in both directions on Cochie Canyon Trail.

  • Sandario Road from Union Pacific Railroad to the roundabout will be adjusted from 35 mph to 25 mph.

  • Sandario Road from the roundabout to Moore Road will be adjusted to a consistent 35 mph both directions.

  • Marana Access Road from Sandario Road to Marana Road/Marana Main Street will be adjusted from 25 mph to 35 mph.

  • Marana Main Street from the roundabout to the first curve to the west (about 1,000 feet) will be adjusted from 25 mph to 35 mph.

  • Sanders Road from about 3600 feet south of Moore Rd to Moore Rd will be adjusted from 35 mph to 40 mph.

Phase 2 speed limit adjustments will take place in April and include:

  • Tangerine Road east of I-10.  One consistent 40 mph speed limit for both directions.

  • Tangerine Road west of I-10.  One consistent 45 mph speed limit for both directions.

  • Thornydale Road from north of Tangerine to Camino Norte (to Town limits).  One consistent 40 mph speed limit for both directions.

Phase 3 speed limit adjustments will take place in May and include:

  • Pima Farms Road. A short section of 35 mph speed limit just east of Scenic Drive will be reduced to 30 mph to be consistent with the rest of Pima Farms Road.

  • Cortaro Road. One consistent 40 mph speed limit from Arizona Pavilions to Cerius Stravenue.

  • Oasis Road. One consistent 35 mph speed limit (both directions) from Twin Peak to town limits.

  • Aerie Drive. Speed limit is reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph in acknowledgement of road function, increasing development, roadway geometry, and absence of continuous lighting.
