Candidate Orientation Session for Town Council

The Town of Marana will be hosting a candidate orientation on February 20 for people interested in running for Town Council this year. More information on how to run for Town Council can be found at www.MaranaAZ.gov/Elections

BACKGROUND

The Marana Town Clerk is the filing officer for all municipal elections and responsible for coordinating elections with the Pima County Recorder’s Office and the Pima County Elections Department. Please direct all questions related to candidate filing and submission of campaign finance reports to the Town Clerk’s Office at (520) 382-1962.

Prospective candidates can make an appointments with the Town Clerk to review candidate packet and discuss the election process at any time. Informational appointments generally last 30 minutes.

As of January 2020, the Town of Marana has 29,607 registered voters, with 22,107 of those voters enrolled on the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL). Candidate nomination petitions must contain a minimum of 282 to a maximum of 564 signatures of eligible voters within Marana corporate limits. Historically, the Primary Election determines the winners for open council seats. A candidate will continue to the General Election only if a majority victor cannot be determined at the primary election.

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY

All citizens interested in running for the Marana Town Council must be at least 18 years of age at the time of election, have resided in the jurisdictional boundaries of Marana for one year, and be a qualified elector in the State of Arizona.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES

Each candidate who intends to accept contributions or make expenditures of $500 or more must file a Statement of Organization with the Town Clerk. All candidates interested in running for Town Council should submit a statement of organization if they believe they will spend $500 or more. If any information reported on the Statement of Organization changes, the political committee must file an amended Statement of Organization reporting the change within five business days.
