UPDATE: Self-filling sandbag locations to close in Marana for the season

UPDATE 9/26/2023: As Monsoon 2023 comes to an end, all Town of Marana sandbag locations will also be closing for the season.

Sandbag locations will be closing this week. They were available June through September as part of the Marana Storm Preparedness Plan.

The Town of Marana wants to protect the traveling public and keep Town streets safe and clean to ensure safe passage for residents and visitors during the monsoon summer season (June 1- Sept 30). The Marana Storm Preparedness Plan is designed to work cohesively and seamlessly during the emergency phase.

Town staff will monitor radar from the National Weather Service in Tucson and the Pima County Regional Flood Control District ALERT System to determine flooding potential and will be ready for response and recovery following extreme flood events.

SANDBAGS

Public Works will assist residents concerned with flooding by providing three sandbag self-filling locations open seven days a week. To accommodate as many residents as possible with sandbags, there is a limit of 20 sandbags per resident.

Sandbags can be picked up at the following locations (shovels not provided):

  • Marana Heritage River Park: 12280 N. Heritage Park Dr.

  • Camino De Manana & Tangerine Rd NE Corner: 4228 W. Tangerine Rd.

  • Silverbell Rd & Linda Vista Blvd SE Corner: 8057 W. Linda Vista Blvd

Residents in need of assistance can contact Marana Public Works Team and schedule an appointment to pick up pre-filled sandbags at a designated location and time. To schedule your appointment please contact Public Works at 520-382-2536 or PW@maranaaz.gov.

As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Marana and flood roadways, Public Works crews mobilize barricades to dip crossings throughout the Town. Please do not drive around or cross barricaded streets. Barricaded streets are a sign that unsafe conditions exist. Most vehicles float and are swept downstream in as little as 6 inches to one foot of water. When in doubt, take an alternate route.
