Application Process For Contracted Instructors:

1. Our process begins with an independent contractor proposing their idea for a program or activity. Contractors can submit the enclosed form to the Marana Parks and Recreation Department.

2. A Recreation Supervisor will review the proposal and determine if the suggested program or activity meets the Department’s vision and goals. If needed, the Contractor will be contacted to discuss in greater detail.

3. If the Department decides to move forward with the proposal, the Contractor and Supervisor will work together to define the specifics of the program or activity including facility suitability and availability, course time frame, age ranges, fee structure, number of participants, course description, etc.

4. Once the Town of Marana Parks and Recreation Department and the independent contractor enter into a verbal agreement, a written contract will be produced.

About the Contract

• Contracts will coincide with the Town’s fiscal year, July 1 – June 30

• Program offerings will coincide with Parks and Recreation’s Activity Guide

  • Winter/Spring: January – April

  • Summer: May – August

  • Fall: September – December

• The Town of Marana insurance does not cover Contract Instructors

  • Instructors may be required to carry insurance

• The Town of Marana does not withhold state or federal income tax, but does submit income information via form 1099.

• All licenses, certifications, and insurance must be current throughout the duration of the course.

  • A Town of Marana Business License is required

Benefits of becoming a Contract Instructor:

• Registration: All registration and money transfers takes place through Parks and Recreation

• Rosters: Course rosters are available through the online software

• Promotion: Parks and Recreation may include courses in the seasonal Activity Guide, provide flyers, and post on social media platforms.

  • Contractors can promote as well. All advertising done by the Contractor must be approved by Parks and Recreation and represent the course as a Marana Parks and Recreation program.

• Compensation: Contract Instructors generally receive a percentage of course fees.

• Use of Town facilities for programs

Professional Conduct: Though not employees of the Town of Marana, Contractors and Commercial Use Permittees do represent the Town and therefore must conduct themselves in a professional manner including dressing, and speaking professionally, and supporting Town policies and decisions.
