Volunteers plant over one-thousand saguaros in Marana

MARANA- Volunteers are breathing new life into the Sonoran Desert by planting hundreds of saguaros in our community.

Jason Grodman, Natural Resources Supervisor with Marana Parks & Recreation, says they have planted a total of 1,125 saguaros throughout the El Rio Preserve, Tortolita Preserve and Tortolita Mountain Park. This is a volunteer effort led by the Tucson Audubon Society.

Since January 2024, 681 saguaros have been planted so far in the Tortolita Preserve, 410 saguaros planted in Tortolita Mountain Park and 34 in the El Rio Preserve.
