MARANA, ARIZONA — Following the passing of Mayor Ed Honea on November 22, 2024, Jon Post, who had been serving as Vice Mayor, stepped into the role of Acting Mayor. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the Marana Town Council officially appointed Post as Mayor during a regular council meeting.

Reflecting on his appointment, Mayor Post said, "You know, I still every day think of Ed. I loved being second behind Ed. It was one of the best times of my life...I didn't ever truly have aspirations to be Mayor because Ed did such a great job, he made it such a great place to serve. With his passing, I appreciate the council putting their trust in me to move the town forward and I won't let you down."

Mayor Post will serve for the next two years until the general election in 2026, when a special election will be held to elect a mayor for the remaining two years of the term. The regular mayoral election schedule will resume in 2028.

Mayor Post’s appointment created a vacancy in the Vice Mayor position. The Marana Town Council appointed Councilmember Roxanne Ziegler to serve as Vice Mayor for a two-year term.

Vice Mayor Ziegler shared her thoughts during the council meeting, "First of all, thank you council for your support and confidence in me. It's hard for me to talk about the mayor so I'll keep it short, I didn't really want to get here that way, but Ed left a great vision for us, and we're going to keep the promises we made, and the vision that we have."

The Vice Mayor is appointed by the Town Council every two years.

Mayor Post and Vice Mayor Ziegler each expressed their commitment to continuing Mayor Honea’s vision and working alongside the Town Council to serve the Marana community.
