MARANA - The Town of Marana Water Department is the proud recipient of two awards from the AZWater Association.
Small Treatment Plant / System of the Year
The Town of Marana Picture Rocks Water Treatment Campus has been selected for Small Water Treatment Plant/System of the Year. This award is based on the ongoing positive impacts of it illustrating responsible stewardship of the environment with emphasis on the health and welfare of the community.
In August 2018, the Town of Marana Council made a conscientious and proactive decision to pursue the design and construction of water treatment plants for each of the two impacted systems in Marana Water service area to remove PFAS & 1,4-dioxane. These facilities not only enhance the quality of the water resources but also provide protection of the environment, while providing energy and cost efficiencies, system reliability, customer confidence, and most of all, safe drinking water. The construction of the two water treatment campus were completed in March 2021 and have been producing high quality of drinking water for our customers since then.
Small Sanitary Sewer System of the Year
The Town of Marana Water Reclamation Conveyance System has been selected for Small Sanitary Sewer System of the Year. This award is based on the ongoing involvement and knowledge in operations, new methods and technologies, improvements, and safety practices and procedures.
The Town owns and operates the Marana Water Reclamation Conveyance System, which provides wastewater collections to approximately 6,200 homes and businesses in the north Marana area. The wastewater collection system in north Marana consists of ~90 miles of sewer mains, ranging in size from 6” to 24”, 2,030 Manholes, and 4 Lift Stations. Five operations staff and two maintenance mechanics are responsible for the operations and maintenance of both the sanitary sewer system and the Water Reclamation Facility. In 2020, Marana completed the Sewer Conveyance System Master Plan in partnership with HDR. This master planning process analyzed the current conditions of the conveyance system, identified possible restrictions to future growth, and recommended projects to accommodate new development. Due to rapid development, the Sewer Conveyance System Master Plan is now being updated to better represent current conditions.
