Water Rates

Monthly Minimum

There is a monthly service charge based on service type and meter size for all accounts. These are collected to ensure the safety of the delivery system and infrastructure. Customers pay these charges regardless of the amount of water used. Consumption is not included in the monthly minimum charges.

5/8" Meter         $19.31
3/4" Meter         $20.19
1" Meter         $21.52
1 1/2" Meter         $31.65
2" Meter         $51.94
3" Meter         $79.29

Tiered Billing Structure

Marana Water uses a tiered, or increasing block, billing structure for residential customers. Based on the monthly meter reading, residential customers are billed for water usage per 1,000 gallons. As the usage increases, the rate increases. These types of structures are used to promote water conservation. In addition to encouraging conservation, a tiered billing structure puts more control with the customer on their monthly water bill.

0-10,000     $3.80
10,001-20,000     $5.34
20,001-30,001     $6.86
30,001-40,000     $8.57
40,001 +     $12.37

Groundwater Resource Fee

To help recover the costs associated with water resources, all water customers are billed the Groundwater Resources Acquisition (GRA) fee. The GRA fee for all water customers is $1.37 per 1,000 gallons.

Taxes

There are two taxes levied each month. Sales tax is only charged on the water monthly minimum, water consumption, groundwater resource fee, and late charges at 10.1%. The superfund tax is a rate per 1,000 gallons. It is used to ensure water quality per state statute. The tax would be $0.65 for 100,000 gallons, or $0.0065 per 1,000 gallons.

Sewer Rates

To calculate the sewer consumption portion of the bill, an average of the three winter months,December, January, and February, of the previous year is used. Every July this average is recalculated for the upcoming fiscal year. When calculating the bill, the monthly water use OR the winter average is used to calculate sewer consumption, whichever value is lower will be used. Marana Water bills for two sewer providers, Marana Water Reclamation and Pima County Regional Water Reclamation Department (RWRD). Sewer bills are reported and collected on the monthly water bill.

Marana residential sewer bills are calculated using two components:

  1. Monthly minimum           $17.66
  2. Consumption charge     $5.69 per 1,000 gallons

Pima County RWRD residential sewer bills are calculated using two components:

  1. Monthly minimum           $13.00
  2. Consumption charge     $4.85 per 1,000 gallons

For more information on Pima County’s rates visit the American Legal website.

All non-residential sewer bills are calculated using two components and are solely based on Water Consumption:

  1. Monthly minimum           $17.66
  2. Consumption charge     $5.69 per 1,000 gallons

Deposits

The Marana Water department requires a refundable security deposit for all accounts and are listed below. The security deposit can be applied to the first water bill or pre-paid by 4:00 PM the business day prior to service commencement date. Failure to pay the required security deposit by the due date will result in a disconnection of water service.

Residential property owners - if you are the owner and primary occupant of the property, there is an option to waive the deposit by providing three (3) letters of good standing from previous utility companies (gas, electric, water, trash or sewer). A letter of good standing will indicate the customers name and former address along with the most recent 12-month history of late payments, disconnections of service and returned payments signed by the utility company representative. These can be sent as an attachment on the Start Service application or via email to MaranaWater@MaranaAz.gov. If unable to collect these letters, the deposit can be refunded after twelve months of good standing, meaning no disconnects, returned checks, or late fees.

Tenants and landlords - if you are renting out your home or are renting a home in the Marana Water service area, your deposit is refunded when you move out or close the account. These deposits must be collected before your scheduled move in date.

Non-Residential - Your deposit is refunded when you move out or close the account. These deposits must be collected before your scheduled move in date.

Customers have the ability to contest the accuracy of their bill. Learn about that process in Town Code Title 14-5-6.
