Water History

Where We Started

The Marana Water Department began in 1997. Water has always been an integral part of the Town of Marana's history. One of the factors for incorporation in 1977 was to protect water rights of those living in the area at the time.

In 1997, there were approximately 500 water customers. We now have over 12,000 and growing. The seven water systems covering both the north and south parts of Marana are managed and maintained by a strong staff. These dedicated water professionals can provide information on water quality, rates and fees, engineering, water resources, water production and distribution, water conservation, and water reclamation.

Where We're Going

In 2010, the department put together a Potable Water Master Plan. This plan is used to project the infrastructure and water resource needs as the department grows. View the Potable Water Master Plan(PDF, 9MB).

The Business Services teams responsibility includes answering customer questions, service requests, and processing monthly billing.
