Non-Potable Service

Purpose and Conditions for Non-Potable Service

Use of non-potable water for landscaping can be more cost-effective and reduce demand on the Town’s potable water system.

Marana Water provides non-potable water service in limited areas. The Cortaro-Marana Irrigation District - Cortaro Water Users Association (“CMID” or CMID-CWUA) operates a non-potable system within the Town limits. In 2022, with the addition of Chapter 14-11 to the Town Code, Marana adopted conditions for non-potable service within the CMID service area. Chapter 14-11, outlines requirements for new development within the CMID service area. The CMID service area is identified on the Marana Water Service Areas Lookup.

CMID provides requirements for non-potable service on their website.

Marana Water's Engineer determines if the proposed development is within the CMID non-potable service area. If the project is within this area, the requirements of Chapter 14-11 of Title 14 in the Marana Town Code will apply. The Engineer shall determine the non-potable uses at the site using the Marana Non-Potable Worksheet(XLSX, 34KB). Please refer to the CMID website for requirements if non-potable water service is required for the proposed development.
