Local Practice Tips for Lawyers Appearing in Marana

  • Most non-dispositive hearings can be held by phone or Zoom. See the Presumptive Hearing Types Order(PDF, 210KB) for more information and view the call-in number and Zoom log in info(PDF, 32KB).
  • You may waive your client’s appearance at non-dispositive hearings if you are in good contact, unless the Judge has ordered your client to appear.
  • If you attend court in person, fill out a sign-in sheet at the front window prior to coming into court. This triggers your file to be pulled by the Court and Prosecutor.
  • The court accepts telephonic pleas and pleas by mail when allowed by the Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure. Telephonic and plea-by-mail packets are obtained from the court (court@maranaAZ.gov) and must be completed and provided to the court prior to the change of plea hearing.
  • If your client is taking a plea in-person, provide an unsigned copy of the plea agreement to the court at least 48 hours prior to the hearing (court@maranaAZ.gov). This allows paperwork to be prepared before your hearing to make your appearance more efficient for you and your client.
  • If you file a procedural motion without documenting the State’s position the motion will be held for up to 15 days for the State to respond. If you include the State’s position in your motion you will receive a ruling more quickly.
  • The court accepts filings by email – court@maranaAZ.gov
  • The court often distributes minute entries by email. The email address on your notice of appearance will be used for minute entry distribution unless you notify the court you prefer to receive documents by mail.
  • Please notify the court if your client requires an interpreter. Spanish interpreters are available the first Wednesday of the month in the afternoon. Other interpreters are available by request.
