Stormwater Management

Stormwater runoff from urban environments is generated from rain and snowmelt that flows over land or impervious surfaces, such as paved streets, and parking lots. Stormwater runoff can pick up pollutants like trash, chemicals, oils, and dirt/sediment. Unlike the water used in homes, which flows to a wastewater treatment facility, stormwater does not receive any treatment before being discharged to the nearest waterway.

Stormwater pollution is currently the major cause of water pollution today. The Town of Marana is regulated under the Phase II stormwater program known as the Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES).

The Household Hazardous Waste Program

The Household Hazardous Waste Program is a joint effort between the City of Tucson and Pima County. This program is designed to collect hazardous waste from residents in the community.

Common household and automotive products become a hazard to the environment when disposed of improperly. Leftover quantities of these products should never be poured down the drain, put in the trash, or stored for excessive periods of time. Please bring them to the household waste collection sites for safe disposal (fees may apply).

For more information on locations and items considered hazardous waste, please visit Pima County/City of Tucson Household Hazardous Waste Program.
